Hi, My Name is Adele Miller.
I am from New Orleans, Louisiana but recently moved to Fort Worth, Texas to attend TCU. One of the reasons I chose TCU was the strong sense of community here. With an emphasis on community in Composition I, I have decided to focus my final project on the importance of communities for college students and how one community often leads to others. I believe it is important to acknowledge that I am privileged to be able to attend a school like TCU and get involved in so many communities.
My Pitch
Coming to a new place, it can be hard to put yourself out there. However, having close friendships and a sense of community are crucial to success, especially in college. Thinking about communities in Composition I this year, I realized that all of the communities I consider myself a part of are somehow connected. I noticed that joining one community makes it alot easier to join other communities. My final campaign is going to show how the communities I am in have impacted me and why a sense of community is important. I am going to post tweets with messages about communities and create a Pinterest board with ways to get involved. I also linked a TedTalk which I used as my inspirational text for this project as well as a link to a poster a created as my third genre.
Important Message
As other classmates of mine have discussed in their final campaigns, college is a difficult transition and it can be tempting to isolate yourself. Isolation can lead to depression and academic failure. While it may be intimidating, joining any sort of community can lead to a variety of new paths and connections to help students flourish.
